Slime Care 101: How to Keep Your Slime Fresh & Stretchy

Slime is fun, satisfying, and stress-relieving — but only if you take care of it! Without the right care, slime can dry out, lose its stretch, or get too sticky. Don’t worry — we’ve got you covered. Here's your ultimate guide to keeping your slime in perfect shape.

1. Always Store It Airtight

Your slime’s worst enemy? Air. Always keep your slime in an airtight container when not in use. This prevents it from drying out and keeps the texture soft and stretchy. Every Slimes by Sydney order comes with a storage container — don’t toss it!

Bonus tip: Store it in a cool, dry place (not in direct sunlight or hot cars).

2. Wash Your Hands First

Clean, dry hands make all the difference. Oils, lotions, and dirt can affect your slime's texture over time. Washing your hands before play keeps your slime cleaner, longer — and keeps the texture consistent.

3. Use Activator for Sticky Slime

If your slime gets too sticky, don’t panic — it just needs a little slime activator. You can buy one or make your own with a mix of borax and water.

Add just a drop or two at a time and knead well. Too much activator can make slime stiff, so go slow!

4. Warm It Up if It’s Stiff

Cold weather can make slime hard or rubbery. If your slime feels stiff, let it sit at room temperature or warm it slightly in your hands. For some thicker slimes, a few drops of warm water can also help soften it.

5. Keep It Clean

Try to avoid playing on dirty surfaces or near fabric (like carpets or clothes) where lint can stick to the slime. If your slime does get dirty, gently remove debris or mix it into a larger batch to dilute it.

With a little care, your slime can stay soft, stretchy, and satisfying for weeks or even months! At Slimes by Sydney, we handcraft each slime to last — and we want it to bring you joy long after you open the jar.
